She Stoops to Conquer

The Servants - She Stoops To Conquer - BOV March 1995 She Stoops To Conquer
written by Oliver Goldsmith

I played Roger the manservant, a bewildered scene shifter and a drinker in the tavern scene.  This 18th century comedy was produced on a wonderful set designed by Louise Belson, with 18th century style flats and a trio of bewigged musicians in the pit. The play was performed at the Theatre Royal, King Street, Bristol, England form March 9th to April 8th 1995.  It was directed by Ian Hastings for the Bristol Old Vic Company.

Some reviews:

"A sparkling revival of Oliver Goldsmith's classic 18th century comic swipe at social conventions . . . . This uplifting, fun filled production is likely to be one of the best things to appear on stage this year."
Bristol Observer

". . . this is a wonderfully invigorating evening . . . .  The ensemble playing is excellent."
Western Daily Press

"Ian Hastings' fast and furious production of Oliver Goldsmith's 18th century classic hits the stage running, and from there on the comic energy never flags.  There were delicious comic performances all the way down the cast list."
Venue

". . . a highly entertaining back to basics version of Goldsmith's tale of mistaken identities and social manners.  The eleven strong company enter wholeheartedly into the Hastings' style."
